Stern Review
The Stern Review was announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in July 2005. The Review set out to provide a report to the Prime Minister and Chancellor by Autumn 2006 assessing the nature of the economic challenges of climate change and how they can be met, both in the UK and globally..
The Stern Review, the most comprehensive review ever carried out on the economics of climate change, was published on October 30 2006 and was carried out by Sir Nicholas Stern, Head of the Government Economic Service and former World Bank Chief Economist.
Sir Nicholas Stern stepped down as Head of the Government Economic Service in March 2007 to take up the IG Patel Professorship at the London School of Economics (LSE). The Stern Review team, now based at the Office of Climate Change, continue to work closely with Sir Stern to develop further analysis on the economics of climate change. Sir Nicholas Stern became Lord Stern of Brentford in December 2007, when he was appointed to the House of Lords as a non-party-political peer.
