Carbon Budgets
The Office of Climate Change has worked with other Government departments on how the UK should strategically position itself to meet its carbon budgets which will be established through the Climate Change Bill. Specific analysis of the carbon budgets path to the end of the third five-year budgetary period (2022) was undertaken.
The work identified energy saving as an immediate policy priority, with further existing emission reduction potential in this area as well as wider co-benefits, such as reduction in fuel poverty and increased energy security. Over the coming months, the OCC will be leading follow-up work on energy saving in collaboration with other departments.
